Bay Creek Debuts as 12th of Top 50 Resorts in the U.S.

CAPE CHARLES, VIRGINIA – Bay Creek Resort & Club in Cape Charles, Virginia, with signature golf courses designed by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, was honored as one of the Top 50 Resorts in the country by readers of Golf World magazine. Bay Creek debuted at No. 12 in the ranking, which was published in the September 28, 2009 issue of Golf World magazine. Readers graded the resorts using a ten-point scale and a variety of criteria, including the quality of course, conditioning, practice facilities, reputation, service, overall value, speed of play and others. More than 600,000 criteria evaluations and more than 46,000 individual facility ratings were collected by Golf World to determine the winners in each category.

"We had so much land to work with and the views are simply incredible,” figured Bay Creek developer Dickie Foster "I knew we had to do something special, so I thought why not do two signature courses.”

A non-golfer, Foster had already picked up the phone before somebody in the know could explain it just wasn’t done. “I called the Arnold Palmer group and asked have you and Jack Nicklaus ever done golf courses together,” recalls Foster. “They said no. I said would you consider it?” One week later, Foster had an agreement and today he has one of the Best Resorts in the country with two par 72 signature courses.

Bay Creek also made the "Best of the Best" list in “Conditions of Course,” finishing at No.4. The Golf World Readers' Choice Awards recognizes the top public, resort, and private golf facilities throughout the country, with ratings based entirely on reader reviews and input. The only other Virginia courses that were included in the Top 50 Resort Courses ranking were Golden Horseshoe in Williamsburg at No. 31 and The Homestead Resort in Hot Springs at No. 33.

Bay Creek has won a number of awards for its golf courses. Both the Palmer and Nicklaus courses were named among the "Best New Courses" by Golf Digest and Golf magazine when they opened in 2001 and 2005 respectively. And both have consistently been included in Golf Digest’s Annual “Best Courses in State” rankings.
